Prime Photonics uses its competence in machine vision in multiple projects such as our research on FOD Strike Detection In Aircraft Engines. We use machine vision algorithms, sometimes used in conjunction with machine learning, to derive automated measurement and insight from camera-based systems.
Example: Clearance Measurement Validation
One example is our internal use of machine vision to validate performance of our clearance measurement sensors on a test rig. Our engineering team developed a machine vision system which automatically measures clearance of rotating blades on a spinning rig:
- Step 1: Visualization of blade approach and recognition of the proper blade position for measurement
Images above: close-up views of blade approaching and in the correct position for measurement of blade clearance
- Step 2: Distance measurement between the blade and the fixed reference
Picture above: measurement of blade tip clearance
